Mod-Ka Pumas Kickboxing is a Lincoln based Kickboxing class suitable for adults (over 18) who wish to learn an exciting martial sport, get a little fitter and build confidence. Please refer to our FAQs for common questions and answers. Students learn the offensive (punching/kicking) and defensive (evasion/blocking/parrying) skills and applications of this exciting martial art/sport within a friendly, structured framework and are encouraged to progress at their own pace as they develop new skills, applications and power. Techniques are learned through a combination of pad-work, partner based exercises, shadow boxing, structured sparring exercises and sparring itself. Classes are relaxed and sociable and provide a good level of aerobic exercise and cardio-vascular work for the fitness minded (but please if it is only a fitness workout you are looking for seek a different club as we want all our students motivated to learn together and help each other.) We focus primarily on the "Full contact" applications of Kickboxing rather than "semi contact" or "light continuous" and our goal is to raise fighters to a level where they can if they so wish participate in ring competition. We do not put forward anyone who isn't skilled, committed, and fit - all three conditions must be met - the ring is not a forgiving environment. Many students however have no desire to compete and are happy to learn and train within the club environment and we are happy to support this too. Classes last for 2 hours and begin with a warm up and stretching to prepare the body and minimize any risk of strain or injury. All students are licensed and insured to train in martial arts through Shi Kon and Perkins Slade Ltd. Our Club Instructor Paul Mills, is fully insured to teach and holds government standard martial arts coaching certification and is CRB checked. Mod-Ka Pumas Kickboxing Chief Instructor Pat O'Keeffe (based in Essex), has authored three excellent Kickboxing books and two instructional DVDs and provides seminars and advanced classes to Mod-Ka students.
